 Facilities Study Committee

 Welcome

The economic climate in the United States has taken a huge downturn within the past few years. In the State of Michigan, which is largely supported by the “Big Three” auto companies, we have seen even more dramatic changes.  Unfortunately, we are seeing our unemployment numbers rising, foreclosures instead of new mortgages, and state cuts to educational funding. As a result, school districts are struggling to balance their budgets.

The Center Line Public School District took steps to examine how we can operate most efficiently, yet provide the best education for our students. On Monday, October 26, 2009, the Board of Education voted 7-0 to create an advisory Facilities Study sub-committee.  The goal of this committee was to study and recommend the closing of an elementary building for the 2010-2011 academic year. The process involved a review of each elementary building, including enrollment trends, building age, condition, capacity, and district finances.

On February 8, 2010, a recommendation was made to the Board of Education to close Miller Elementary School.  On February 22, 2010, the Board of Education voted 6-1 to close Miller Elementary School as a K-5 functioning elementary building as of the 2010-2011 school year.

This web page contains all documents, notes and presentations the committee used to make their recommendation.
