The New Peck/Early Childhood Center

June 11, 2019

The construction fences are up, the old track has been torn out, and dirt is being moved!  Starting on Monday, we will begin to see rapid progress on the new Peck Elementary build.  The builders will recycle the old track materials to build a temporary work road and will begin laying the building pad and foundation, target date June 27.  They will start with the gym structure and then work their way east.

It is finally time – time to build our new Peck Elementary with early childhood wing!  We want to share some general information with you as well as provide you with contact information should you have any questions or concerns.

Here are some site logistics shared with us by our construction manager:

  • Temporary construction fencing will be installed around the perimeter of the site. Some existing fencing will be incorporated as part of the construction fencing (i.e. baseball outfield fence, southern neighbor’s fence, etc.). Any homeowner gates to the area will be secured or another barrier fence will be added just beyond the homeowner’s fence for safety.
  • Contractor parking will be established within the SE parking lot of Center Line HS.
  • Work hours for the project will be established from 7:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and many Saturdays.
  • Construction truck traffic will be accessing the construction site from the east off Lorraine Ave. Contractors will be notified that trucks should be directed to the site from 10 Mile Road heading north on Lorraine Ave. (This will minimize traffic issues during school days at Wolfe Middle School.)

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Bond Supervisor Craig Anderson (, 586-634-0171) or Superintendent Eve Kaltz (, 586-510-2001).  We are very excited to get started on the first new school built in Center Line Public Schools in over 50 years, and we are grateful to you, our community members, for your continued support!

The bond planning committee has been meeting with the architects and the construction manager for several months to give input and review preliminary plans for the new elementary/early childhood center that will be constructed on the site of the old track (Busch/Lorraine).  The plans have evolved to the point of the current proposed design; additional meetings will be held before the project goes out to bid.  Groundbreaking is scheduled for the end of spring 2019.
